CAESAREA, HAIFA AND AKKO

Romans,  Baha'i, Crusaders and Oriental Markets

We drive along the Mediterranean coast to Caesarea to visit the once magnificent port city built by Herod, the Great. In this 2000 year old Roman city we walk from the imposing theater past the remains of palaces, hippodromes, bath houses, villas to the ancient Port of Sebastos as well as some ruins and massive city walls from the crusader era.  Here in Caesarea one can also find traces of the first Christians: Cornelius was baptized here by the Apostle Peter and  Paul was imprisoned here. And Pontius Pilate had his palace in Caesarea.

We continue along the coast past the crusader castle Atlit and reach Haifa , where we enjoy a wonderful viewpoint over the city with the harbor and the imposing Baha'i Gardens.

Then we continue to the once blooming crusader port of Akko , where we will explore the Knights Halls , an underground secret tunnel of the once mighty Order of St. John, old caravanserais, the port and the old town. We also take a look at the impressive Ahmed El-Jazzar Mosque , which shapes the skyline of Akko with its green domed roof. We end the day in the Suk, the oriental bazaar of Akko .
