JAFFA'S PICTURESQUE OLD CITY

In the footsteps of King Solomon, Prophet Jonah and Simon, the Tanner

The enchanting old town of Jaffa, the city of the famous Jaffa oranges with more than 4000 years of history, is the focus of this half-day tour. Today the old town of Jaffa is a town of artists and craftsmen.

The tour starts at the Clock Tower, the famous landmark of Jaffa, and leads us directly along the sea shore to a beautiful viewpoint over the bay and the Andromeda rocks. These rocks remind us of a story from Greek mythology.

We also discover places in Jaffa that Napoleon Bonaparte passed on his campaign to Palestine. We stroll through the old picturesque Port of Jaffa, which was once considered the Gate to Jerusalem. We discover some galleries in the narrow streets of the old town and experience biblical stories from the Old and the New Testament on this tour.

Who still remembers the story of Jonah and the Whale? We also reach the House of Simon, the Tanner, where the Apostle Peter was a guest and raised Tabitha from the death.

We walk past the Ilana Goor Museum and finally climb the highest hill in Jaffa, where in archaeological excavations remains of an Egyptian city gate and a fortress from the time of Pharaoh Ramses II. have been excavated. At the top of the hill, we will see the Gate of Faith, from where we enjoy an excellent view of Tel Aviv. At the foot of the hill, we will visit the Church of St. Peter. The adjoining monastery is said to have hosted Napoleon during his campaign to Palestine. Our tour ends at the clock tower, not far from the Flea market.

You will then have time to explore the Jaffa Flea Market on your own. Those who have become hungry in the meantime will also find many small trendy restaurants here. However, just be aware that many of these restaurants are closed on Shabbat.

Duration of the Tour: approx. 3 hours
