SEA OF GALILEE - HOLY PLACES OF JESUS' MINISTRY IN THE GALILEE

With a hike to the cliff of the Arbel National Park

We first drive north along the Mediterranean Sea and then inland until we reach the Arbel Nature Reserve. We take a short hike to the edge of the Arbel cliff and enjoy a magnificent view of the Sea of Galilee and the Pigeon Valley through which Jesus hiked many times on his way from Nazareth to the Sea of Galilee.

Finally we reach the Sea of Galilee and visit Tabgha with the Church of the Multiplication of the Loaves and Fish. Here the Jesus miracle of feeding the five thousand took place. We will also visit the Church of the Primacy of St. Peter, which is also known as Christ's refectory (“Mensa Christi”). This church marks the place where, according to tradition, Jesus appeared to his disciples after his resurrection at the lake and is said to have had a meal with them. This is also the place where Peter was charged with pastoring the flock of Christ, and taking the leading role in the initial church as described in the Acts of Apostles.

We continue to Capernaum, the hometown of Jesus. Here Jesus lived in the House of the Apostle Peter and did many miracles. We visit the remains of the house of Peter as well as an old synagogue from the 4th century, which was probably built over the synagogue from Jesus' time.

Now we drive to the Mount of Beatitudes, where Jesus held the famous Sermon on the Mount. From here we enjoy a breathtaking view of the Sea of Galilee.

We continue to travel along the shore of the Sea of Galilee and  cross the Jordan River,  and then drive along the east bank, right at the foot of the Golan Heights.  Soon we will reach the southern region of the Sea of Galilee, where we will visit Yardenit, the baptismal site at the Jordan River. Here you have the opportunity to renew  your baptism or just to experience the Jordan River where also Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist 2000 years ago.
